Six-Figure Compensation for Workplace Injury

A man from Doncaster whose fingers were severed by an industrial saw has won a six-figure sum in compensation.

Lenny Andruchiw, 63, worked for a company that manufactures worktops, cabinets and storage units and was cutting small pieces of wood when the accident happened. His hand was pulled under the blade when one of the offcuts was dragged down by the saw. As the thin gloves he was wearing provided little protection, the ends of all four fingers and the thumb on his left hand were severed.

He was initially taken to Doncaster Royal Infirmary before being transferred to the Northern District General Hospital in Sheffield. He underwent specialist surgery in an effort to save his fingers, but doctors were only able to reattach his little finger as the other digits were too badly damaged.

Mr Andruchiw was unable to work after the accident but has kept himself motivated by practising his joinery skills and is now looking for a job.

Although there has been no formal admission of liability by the company, after a legal battle, it agreed to settle Mr Andruchiw’s personal injury claim for a six-figure sum.
