Commercial Real Estate Paralegal Vacancy


We have a vacancy for a full-time Paralegal, with previous Commercial or Residential Real Estate experience, to join our busy and well respected Commercial Real Estate team in the Chelmsford office.  Please note that this role does require previous experience in a similar property Paralegal role and therefore applicants who do not possess these skills will not be considered on this occasion.

The Department
You will join a busy and highly regarded team dealing with all aspects of commercial real estate  but initially dealing with plot sales but also  sales and purchases investment, secured lending, development, options and conditional contracts and non-contentious landlord and tenant matters.

The role will involve full marketing and business development and therefore the ideal candidate must be flexible enough to work outside normal office hours when required and preferably have their own vehicle as well as a clean driving licence.

The Candidate
We are looking for an outgoing and enthusiastic Paralegal to provide support to the Commercial Real Estate Team of specialist lawyers. Previous experience within a similar role is essential.   

The ideal candidate will have:

Construction Solicitor Vacancy

Chelmsford Office

The Role
We have a full-time vacancy for a Senior Construction Solicitor ideally with a minimum of 4 years PQE to join our highly regarded team based in our Chelmsford office.

Your role will be to lead the next stage of development of the team. You will be supported by partner Peter Allen and the other members of the multidisciplinary team.

The team plans include substantial growth over the next 3 years and this is a unique opportunity to play a leading role in that development. The team has many ideas as to how to achieve this development but you should also have your own ideas for how to achieve this growth.

You will be advising our clients on construction documentation including contracts, sub-contracts, collateral warranties, professional appointments and bonds. This includes advising on many different standard forms such as JCT and NEC, together with bespoke documentation. 

You will advise clients on all types of construction disputes, including payment issues, extensions of time, loss and expense claims, defects, professional negligence and insurance claims. Cases are run in adjudications, the TCC, County Court and arbitration. The role may also include advising on other contractual and commercial disputes relating to construction clients.

Our clients include local authorities and educational establishments. We act for developers, main contractors and specialist subcontractors. The turnover of companies we act for mainly range between £5 million and £25 million. A lot of our work is on commercial buildings and blocks of apartments. We have a good range of core clients who give us repeat work. We also have many clients who we are sure could be developed further. The firm also has expertise in environmental and energy work which could be developed. 
 

The Team
The team is multidisciplinary involved dispute resolution, commercial property, employment, development, environmental and energy expertise. You would initially join the highly driven South Essex Dispute Resolution team which includes our Construction litigators, however a major part of your role will be non contentious construction advice.  

The Candidate

The successful candidate will have proven experience (ideally a minimum of 4 years PQE) in handling a caseload covering both non contentious and contentious construction work. You will have experience of all of the major standard forms of contract as well as bespoke construction documentation. You will have experience of representing clients in adjudication and the Technology and Construction Court. 

You will have the ability to deliver succinct high-quality advice, excellent client and team communication skills, drafting and negotiation skills and a desire to play a leading role in the future development of the team. You will need to use your own initiative and provide good commercial advice to clients. You will be computer literate, able to use a case management system and be able to type. 

This role is an excellent opportunity for progression.

Parking Attendant – Marketing Events

The Role
This is an opportunity to work supporting the Marketing team by managing the car park at Marketing events held at the Birkett Long Colchester office.

The role includes:

  • Meeting and greeting car park users to include staff, clients and event delegates on arrival
  • Ensuring that those with authorised access park in the correct bay
  • Managing numbered parking bays from a bookings list
  • Ensuring there is no unauthorised users in the car park
  • Redirection of unauthorised users to nearest car parks

The Candidate
Birkett Long is looking for an individual who can work flexibly to cover the Colchester office car park at around 12 events per year to include early starts of around 7am/8am with each shift lasting no longer than 3 hours. This role would suit someone seeking casual and part-time work. Previous experience, ideally gained in a customer service role would be beneficial.

Trade Mark Attorney

Colchester Office

 

The Role

We have an exciting new role for a Chartered Trade Mark Attorney to join our fast-growing Intellectual Property team in the Colchester office of a legal 500 law firm. The role may be adapted to suit either part-time or full-time candidates.

The Candidate

We are prepared to take applications from a variety of experience levels, from newly qualified upwards.

 

A following is not necessary as we have a great deal of ongoing work. We will work with you to help you build a following locally and further afield and will provide you with an interesting caseload from day one.

You will be involved in both domestic and international filings as well as the prosecuting and monitoring of trade marks, along with some very interesting opposition and cancellation work. You will ideally have some experience of drafting license agreements.

We can provide you with a varied and nourishing diet of contentious and non-contentious work, with some unusually high-profile clients. The mixture of corporate and private client work will serve to harness and develop your written and oral communication skills.

An eye for detail and the ability to work under pressure are important and an interest in communicative, collaborative work is essential.

You will be passionate to deliver succinct, high quality advice with excellent client and team communication skills.
