BLHR

Birkett Long has significant growth plans, including of Birkett Long Human Resources or BLHR, offering HR services and employment law support to existing and new clients. BLHR offers a unique HR and employment law service. Rather than a ‘one size fits all’ approach, BLHR designs a bespoke package to meet the needs of individual clients.

The Role

We are looking for a motivated individual with experience in general HR support who is fully CIPD qualified (or equivalent). The position is full time and subject to work commitments working from home can be undertaken for up to two days per week in line with the Firm’s working from home guidelines. Travel to and attendance on client premises will be required. The HR Adviser will work with and support employment law solicitors and be responsible for all generalist HR queries and have up to date knowledge of employment law and best practice.

Prior experience of working within an organisation offering HR support is desirable.  This role will include involvement in developing and marketing and will include meetings with prospective clients. An understanding of the range of services that can be offered to businesses and how it can be delivered is preferred.  The role offers excellent prospects for progression and an understanding of the demands of running a business in this competitive market and an ability to manage a team would be beneficial. 

The role will include providing employee relations support to clients, reviewing and updating employee handbooks and contracts, liaising with clients and creating HR policies, ensuring they are compliant and the preparation, planning, co-ordination and delivery of workshops and training courses. It will also include support to clients outside of BLHR, working with the team’s solicitors or standalone.

The Candidate

The ideal candidate will have;

  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Good working knowledge of UK employment law
  • Previous experience of working in a similar advisory capacity
  • Strong organisational, multi-tasking and prioritisation skills with good attention to detail
  • Adaptability, flexibility and the ability to work under your own initiative
  • Business development and marketing experience
  • A clean driving licence as the role will involve regular local travel
  • IT literate; proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Has excellent timekeeping and prioritises work effectively
  • Is flexible, reliable and cooperative with a professional approach to work
  • Works as a positive, friendly and helpful team player

Commercial Real Estate Fee Earner Vacancy

 

We have a vacancy for a Solicitor/Legal Executive with 1-2 years PQE  to join our busy and well respected Commercial Real Estate team. Applicants for this position would be considered on a full time or part time (4 days per week) basis and could be based in either the Colchester, Chelmsford or Basildon office.

The Department

You will join a busy and highly regarded team dealing with all aspects of Commercial Real Estate including sales and purchases, plot sales, investment, secured lending, development, options and conditional contracts and non-contentious landlord and tenant matters.

The role will involve full marketing and business development and therefore the ideal candidate must be flexible enough to work outside normal office hours when required and preferably have their own vehicle as well as a clean driving licence.

 

The Candidate

We are looking for an outgoing and enthusiastic lawyer with previous experience in handling and managing their own caseload, appropriate to their level of experience.

The Role 

We have an exciting opportunity for a full time Senior Support Engineer to join our dynamic IT team based in the Colchester office on a 12 month fixed term contract, to provide second and third line technical support to the whole Firm and IT colleagues. The role will also include some first line technical support. The role is suited to a candidate who is a flexible team player, with “can do” attitude to delivery across support and project deliverables 

The firm is on an exciting IT journey of transition and change, adopting and implementing modern technologies to enable it to deliver the best in client service. This role will be a key part of this journey and will share knowledge, technical expertise and support to the team and wider firm to facilitate the successful execution of the project.  

We are seeking a lead technical specialist, with the ability to demonstrate experience in delivering first class and hands on in-house and homeworking support to a range of users operating in a hybrid Microsoft environment. The successful candidate will also have experience in project implementation and improving the quality and efficiency of services and support delivery.  

 

The Candidate 

We are looking for a forward-thinking and customer-focussed Senior Support Engineer with previous experience within an operational IT team in a similar role.  

You will have experience providing third line support and be the final point of escalation from your colleagues. You will work closely with the IT Manager and IT Director to support and develop first and second line team members ensuring that the service provided is considered to be ‘best practice’ and confirms with agreed KPI’s.  

You will have high end technical knowledge of: 

  • supporting IT software, hardware and services  
  • working within a ticketing system 
  • virtual environments including disaster recovery  
  • planning and managing installations and PC building 
  • hands-on operational IT systems 
  • managing a hybrid Microsoft 365 environment involving Azure Active Directory, Intune, Exchange Online, including administration and troubleshooting 
  • Defender ATP, Onedrive, Sharepoint, Teams (incl. direct call routing) 
  • Windows 10 Enterprise & Microsoft Office 365 
  • Powershell scripting 
  • Desktop and server hardware (Microsoft Surface, HP, Netapp) 
  • Citrix (XenApp) 
  • Windows Server 2008-2019 
  • VMware 
  • Windows Active Directory including Group Policy Management 
  • Networking services and protocols e.g. DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP 
  • User profile management 
  • Trouble-shooting and problem diagnosis, data collection and vendor liaison 

 

You will have good time management and analytical skills with the ability to build rapport and liaise effectively with customers, colleagues and suppliers.  

 

Ideally you will have the following Skills and Qualifications: 

  • MS 365 Certified: Enterprise Administrator Expert or 
  • MCSE: Productivity Solutions Expert 

The role will include travel to all sites and the successful candidate will preferably have their own vehicle as well as a clean driving licence.
