The Role

The role is to support the Financial Planners and qualified Paraplanners.  In addition, the role will include development of our financial software system, therefore industry experience and excellent IT skills would be an advantage.

The position is full time and will initially be based in our Colchester Office although it may be necessary to work at our other two offices in in Chelmsford and Basildon; therefore, flexibility is essential and the ability to drive would be advantageous. There will be the opportunity for some working from home, if desired, in line with the Firm’s working from home guidelines.

The Candidate

You will have a genuine interest in Financial Services, possess strong attention to detail, and will be seeking to develop your career in a financial services environment.

Previous experience in a Financial Services administrative role would be advantageous but is not essential.

You will be self-motivated and willing to learn.  This is an excellent opportunity to progress your career and therefore a willingness to study outside of work would be advantageous.

Assistant Financial Planner

The Role

This training programme is intended to last for a duration of two years however some flexibility with the timetable is possible. The programme is designed for the successful candidate to progress to a Financial Planner. The position is full time and will initially be based in our Colchester Office although it may be necessary to work at our other two offices in in Chelmsford and Basildon; therefore, flexibility is essential and the ability to drive would be advantageous. There will be the opportunity for some working from home, if desired, in line with the Firm's working from home guidelines. The training will be undertaken within the team for the role, you will be working with other team members and supporting the Financial Planners and Financial Planning Managers. Full training and practical support will be provided with the exceptional backing of one of the leading Law and Financial Services firms in Essex.

The Candidate

You will hold the Chartered Insurance Institute Level 4 Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning or equivalent. You will be motivated and dependable, with strong attention to detail, seeking to develop your career in financial planning. Previous experience in a Financial Services role would be advantageous but is not essential.

You will show a genuine passion for delivering excellent client service and display a willingness to learn and be flexible and dedicated. Additional study will be required outside of working hours and therefore you must display a can-do attitude, be able to manage your workload and prioritise effectively. You will be supported and encouraged to achieve your goals within the Financial Services Industry.

The Department

Construction Solicitor Vacancy

The Role

We have an excellent opportunity for a Construction Solicitor ideally with 2-8 years PQE to join our highly regarded multidisciplinary Construction team.

The position is full time and will be based in the Chelmsford office and, subject to work commitments, there will be the opportunity for some working from home, if desired, in line with the Firm’s working from home guidelines.

You will be advising on, drafting and negotiating construction documentation including contracts, sub-contracts, collateral warranties, professional appointments and other ancillary documents. This includes advising on many different standard forms such as JCT and NEC, together with bespoke documentation. 

Our clients include developers, consultants, main contractors, and specialist subcontractors. We advise on projects throughout England and Wales as well as abroad. The turnover of companies we act for mainly range between £5 million and £25 million. A lot of our work is on commercial buildings and blocks of apartments. We negotiate appropriate contract documents with funders of our clients. We advise Subcontractors on the proposed amendments to standard form contracts and the risks that are being taken on. We advise on professional appointments and negotiate terms taking into account insurance requirements.

Experience of contentious construction matters would be useful but not essential. A balance of both types of work could be provided but the majority of work would be non-contentious.   

We have a good range of core clients who give us repeat work. We also have many clients who we are sure could be developed further. The firm also has expertise in environmental and energy work which we are looking to develop. We have seen substantial growth in construction work over the last 18 months which has already led to successful recruitment. You will be expected to assist with business development to capitalise on and continue the growth of the team.

The Team


The team is multidisciplinary involving dispute resolution, commercial property, employment, development, environmental and energy expertise. You would initially join the highly driven South Essex Dispute Resolution team which includes our Construction lawyers, which is where the current pure non-contentious construction work is undertaken.   

The Candidate

The successful candidate will have proven experience (ideally a minimum of 2 years PQE) and enjoy handling a caseload covering non contentious construction work. You will have experience of all the major standard forms of contract as well as bespoke construction documentation.

You will have the ability to deliver succinct high-quality advice, excellent client and team communication skills, drafting and negotiation skills. You will need to use your own initiative and provide good commercial advice to clients. You will be computer literate, able to use a case management system and be able to type. 

The role will involve marketing and business development and therefore the ideal candidate must be flexible enough to work outside normal office hours when required and preferably have their own vehicle as well as a clean driving licence.

We have an exciting new role for a pragmatic and driven Trade Mark Attorney to join our Intellectual Property team in the Colchester office.
