The Role

We have a vacancy for a full-time Team Assistant to join our busy and well respected Divorce and Family team based in our Basildon Office.

The Department

You will be part of our busy and highly regarded team which provide specialist advice and guidance to our clients through the entire divorce and separation process (including Collaborative Law) and all aspects of living together.

The Candidate

We are looking for an enthusiastic applicant to join the team to help to deliver a proactive, secretarial support service to our Fee Earning team. Previous secretarial experience is essential to enable a high-quality secretarial service to your allocated Fee Earner as well as other members of the department. Matrimonial experience would be an advantage but is not mandatory.  

Main Duties and responsibilities

  • Organisational Support
  • Client Relationship and Business Development; acting as a first point of contact for Fee Earners, providing a first-rate service to clients, both internal and external, in a timely and professional manner, presenting a positive image of the Birkett Long at all times.
  • Document Production; creating typed work of a high quality, formatting in accordance with house style, aware of the layout of documents, forms and letters and produces these with accuracy and at a high speed.
  • Financial Risk Management; preparing Anti-Money Laundering documentation and obtains relevant documentation from clients in a timely manner, as required by Fee Earners.

General Duties/Personal Qualities

  • Has excellent timekeeping and prioritises work effectively.
  • Is flexible, reliable and cooperative with a professional approach to work.
  • Works as a positive, friendly and helpful team player.
  • Communicates in a positive and constructive manner.
  • Interacts in good faith and demonstrates effective listening.
  • Attending any meetings or training sessions as required.
  • Carrying out any further duties as requested by your Fee Earner/ Team Leader.
  • Offers suggestions on possible improvements in working practices.
  • Liaising with Fee Earner/Team Leader regarding overload/underload of work and being prepared to assist other team members or departments if required to cover holidays, sickness and heavy workloads.

BLIFA Trainee Paraplanner

We have a vacancy for a Trainee Paraplanner to join our Birkett Long IFA Team.  The position is full time and is based in our Colchester Office.  However, the successful candidate will also provide cover for our other offices in Chelmsford and Basildon and will be required to travel to those offices.

This position is an ideal opportunity for someone seeking career progression within the Financial Services Industry. It is a demanding role and although previous experience would be an advantage, we will consider candidates with minimal experience but who are willing to train and seek qualifications. 

 The main duties and responsibilities are:-

  • Providing support to Financial Planning Managers in research and analysis to meet client needs and objectives
  • Processing new business and general client administration as required
  • Undertake product and provider research including use of O&M Pension Profiler and Avelo
  • Database creation and management
  • Preparing necessary paperwork and application forms for client meetings
  • Obtaining Illustrations and quotations from Platform providers and Insurance companies, etc
  • Communicating with product providers on case progress
  • Liaising with other Financial Services Team members and departments in the firm in relation to mutual clients
  • General secretarial/administration support
  • Dealing with telephone calls from clients and product providers

The ideal candidate we are looking for will:-

  • Have excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Have a professional work approach and a positive “can do” attitude
  • Have excellent organisational skills and the ability to prioritise and manage their own work
  • Have strong attention to detail
  • Have the ability to work as part of a team as well as on their own
  • Be IT proficient and self supporting
  • Study for the CII Certificate in Paraplanning or LIBF Certificate in Paraplanning and Financial Administration or CII Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning.
  • Be self motivated with a desire to study towards further industry qualifications
  • Have some working knowledge of one or more of the following:- O&M Investment and Pension Profiler, Avelo and Wrap Platforms
  • Be flexible and reliable
  • Be competent in the use of Microsoft Office

You will be required to keep up to date with technical, product and provider changes.

A willingness to learn is also essential as additional study will be required outside of working hours.

Parking Attendant – Marketing Events

The Role
This is an opportunity to work supporting the Marketing team by managing the car park at Marketing events held at the Birkett Long Colchester office.

The role includes:

  • Meeting and greeting car park users to include staff, clients and event delegates on arrival
  • Ensuring that those with authorised access park in the correct bay
  • Managing numbered parking bays from a bookings list
  • Ensuring there is no unauthorised users in the car park
  • Redirection of unauthorised users to nearest car parks

The Candidate
Birkett Long is looking for an individual who can work flexibly to cover the Colchester office car park at around 12 events per year to include early starts of around 7am/8am with each shift lasting no longer than 3 hours. This role would suit someone seeking casual and part-time work. Previous experience, ideally gained in a customer service role would be beneficial.

Trade Mark Attorney

Colchester Office

 

 

 

The Role

We have an exciting new role for a Chartered Trade Mark Attorney to join our fast-growing Intellectual Property team in the Colchester office of a legal 500 law firm. The role may be adapted to suit either part-time or full-time candidates.

 

 

The Candidate

We are prepared to take applications from a variety of experience levels, from newly qualified upwards.

 

A following is not necessary as we have a great deal of ongoing work. We will work with you to help you build a following locally and further afield and will provide you with an interesting caseload from day one.

 

You will be involved in both domestic and international filings as well as the prosecuting and monitoring of trade marks, along with some very interesting opposition and cancellation work. You will ideally have some experience of drafting license agreements.

 

We can provide you with a varied and nourishing diet of contentious and non-contentious work, with some unusually high-profile clients. The mixture of corporate and private client work will serve to harness and develop your written and oral communication skills.

 

An eye for detail and the ability to work under pressure are important and an interest in communicative, collaborative work is essential.

 

You will be passionate to deliver succinct, high quality advice with excellent client and team communication skills.

 

The role will involve marketing and business development and therefore the ideal candidate must be flexible enough to work outside normal office hours when required and preferably have their own vehicle as well as a clean driving licence.
