A new initiative for Writtle University College, The WUC Equine Academy, is aimed at supporting talented riders for one academic year whilst studying for any higher education award at Writtle University College.

Leading Essex law firm, Birkett Long, has offered sponsorship to the WUC Equine Academy and will be purchasing branded equipment which enables the students to feel part of a team.

Caroline Flanagan, Head of School (Equine & Veterinary Physiotherapy) said: “Birkett Long providing sponsorship adds a degree of professionalism to the academy and enables the students to understand some of the responsibilities of being a brand ambassador.

“Whilst they understand that they represent WUC whilst they are out and about competing, or talking to prospective students on site, carrying the logos of another business really adds to the sense of expectation in terms of how they present themselves, their horses and the companies they are representing.  This is representative of the kind of pressure that a fully sponsored professional rider would experience.

“The sponsorship money has been spent on branded equipment that enables the students to feel part of a team endeavour, and to be proud of those they represent whilst they are both at home on the yard and out competing.”

David Cant, Partner and Director of Business Development & Marketing said: “What an exciting initiative! On visiting WUC Equine Academy, I was immediately struck by the level of professionalism from both the staff and students. Their dedication and enthusiasm to ensure this initiative is a great success was infectious.

“It’s such an impressive and well thought-out site, it just makes so much sense to bring the academic and competing elements of working with horses together. Furthermore, it really does see the student totally engaged through understanding the importance of carrying the brand of the WUC and Birkett Long.

“I’m convinced this really does help their personal and professional development, how they behave and perform, together with the reputation of the Academy and Birkett Long. We are immensely proud to be sponsors.”
