The Low Pay Commission (LPC) is seeking views on the National Minimum Wage (NMW) and National Living Wage (NLW) rates that should apply from April 2017.
Whereas the NMW rates have traditionally been set on the basis of 'helping as many low-paid workers as possible without damaging their employment prospects', the NLW is subject to a target rate of 60 per cent of median earnings by 2020. In particular, the LPC is interested in the effect the introductory NLW rate of £7.20 per hour has had on workers, employers, the labour market and the economy – including how firms are adjusting and its impact on pay, terms and conditions, income, hours, employment and competitiveness. The LPC is also seeking views on the projected target rates going forward.
The consultation closes at 17:00 on 29 July 2016.
