Essex law firm announces promotions
Birkett Long is delighted to announce the promotion of Chris Burnett to Senior Associate and Lisa Cox, Laura Hook, Sarah Humphryes, Orhan Ismail, Laura Meers and Tom Riley to Associate taking effect on 1 December 2022.
Senior Associate
Chris joined the firm in August 2019 and is a Chartered and European Patent Attorney in the Intellectual Property team. Chris holds a BSc in Biochemistry and a MSc in the Management of Intellectual Property. Chris was promoted to Associate in June 2021.
In his spare time, Chris likes to spend time with his family. He is also a keen runner, and can often be seen at Chelmsford Parkrun on a Saturday morning.
Associate
Lisa joined Birkett Long as a Paralegal in the Court of Protection and Inheritance Disputes team in September 2016. She then secured her training contract with the firm, undertaking seats in Residential Real Estate, the Wills, Trusts and Probate team and Dispute Resolution. Lisa qualified as a Solicitor in March 2020 into the Court of Protection and Inheritance Disputes team.
Laura joined Birkett Long in December 2007 as an Administrative Assistant. Prior to joining Birkett Long, Laura had worked in the travel industry. At Birkett Long, Laura has also worked in the Float team and as Quality and Compliance Executive. Laura became an Executive in June 2016 and will become Risk and Compliance Associate on 1 December.
Sarah joined the Business Development and Marketing team in July 2012 as a Marketing Assistant. Sarah became an Executive in June 2015 and is now the Assistant Marketing Manager.
Sarah is an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Marketing and in her spare time enjoys travelling, live music and visiting art exhibitions.
Orhan joined the firm as a trainer in April 2018 and was promoted to Executive in December 2021. Orhan is now the Learning and Development Manager.
Orhan is a qualified Football Association coach and has managed youth teams in the Colchester area. He also enjoys going to the gym, gigs and is a member of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA).
Laura joined Birkett Long as a Solicitor upon qualification in April 2019 and works in the South Essex Dispute Resolution team. Laura joined from a local law firm where she undertook her training contract. Laura studied her law degree at Anglia Ruskin University and then went on to complete her Legal Practice Course (LPC) at the University of Law.
Tom Riley
Tom joined Birkett Long in November 2014. He had previously worked in various law and professional service firms in cashier roles. Tom was promoted to Executive in June 2017 and took on the role of Head Cashier in June 2021.
In his spare time, Tom enjoys cycling and watching football and is an avid Tottenham fan.
