The Legal 500 – The Clients Guide to Law Firms

Rachel Leech

Associate Solicitor

I am a Associate Solicitor in the Court of Protection & Inheritance Disputes team. I remain calm under pressure, always keep my clients well informed and try to resolve a matter cost effectively and without the need to go to court. I am based in our Colchester office, and am available for a free 15 minute chat over the phone on 01206 217623.

I am responsible for helping clients with matters relating to contested probate, Inheritance Act claims and Court of Protection applicants. I love the variety of issues which arise in the matters I deal with and how every day is different. I enjoyed my previous time spent in the Dispute Resolution and Wills, Trusts & Probate teams, so to bring the two together is perfect for me.

As part of my training to become a solicitor, I first worked in the Residential Real Estate department, and following that, the Dispute Resolution and Wills, Trusts & Probate teams. This previous experience gives me the knowledge to be able to deal with a wide variety of matters.

In September 2018 I became a trustee of the Helen Rollason cancer charity.

I have dealt with two cases which went to appeal following the original trial in the High Court. Here are articles about the cases, and their appeals, which I write for LexisNexis:

Clitheroe v Bond, Clitheroe, Re Probate [2021] EWHC 1102 (Ch): https://www.birkettlong.co.uk/cms/document/banks-v-goodfellow-remains-good-law.pdf

Brunt v Wrangle [2021] 1 WLUK 332- https://www.birkettlong.co.uk/cms/document/retrial-_-after-incorrect-approach-to-evidence-assessment.pdf

Court of Protection and Inheritance Disputes team

Our Court of Protection & Inheritance Disputes team offers specialist advice, in a niche and complex area of law, with empathy and a focus on achieving a just outcome for our clients. The area we work in can be very time consuming and emotionally difficult for our clients, so we work alongside them to guide them through the process as efficiently and easily as we can. We are committed to the constructive resolution of disputes by mediation or negotiation wherever possible, only resorting to the courts where absolutely appropriate.
