Lisa Cox
I am an Associate Solicitor in the Court of Protection and Inheritance Disputes team in our Colchester office.
I studied the LLB Dual Qualifying Law degree at Dundee University in Scotland before completing the Legal Practice Course at BPP University in London. I then completed my training contract at Birkett Long where I spent time in Wills, Trusts and Probate, Residential Real Estate, the Dispute Resolution team and the Court of Protection and Inheritance Disputes team.
I enjoy working with, and speaking to, individual clients as my ambition to become a solicitor derived from my want to help people.
In partnership with The Outhouse, I'm pleased to be able to offer free statutory declaration appointments for anyone that needs a Gender Recognition Certificate.
Prior to moving to Colchester I danced competitively for 18 years, both as an individual and as part of a team. During this time I represented Scotland in a number of international competitions including the world freestyle championships and the American All Star Championships, where I placed as a double American champion. I also performed twice in Disneyworld Florida as part of the Disney Performing Arts Company.
I have now retired my dancing shoes and in my spare time volunteer as a unit helper with 1st Rowhedge Brownies and am a committee member of the Halstead Dog Obedience Club.

Court of Protection and Inheritance Disputes team
Our Court of Protection & Inheritance Disputes team offers specialist advice, in a niche and complex area of law, with empathy and a focus on achieving a just outcome for our clients. The area we work in can be very time consuming and emotionally difficult for our clients, so we work alongside them to guide them through the process as efficiently and easily as we can. We are committed to the constructive resolution of disputes by mediation or negotiation wherever possible, only resorting to the courts where absolutely appropriate.
Court of Protection: contested applications, gifts and other matters
This event was led by Lisa Cox, solicitor in the Court of Protection & Inheritance Disputes team at Birkett Long.
Following on from our earlier webinar on deputies, Lisa provided an overview of contested applications. Lisa also talked about other types of applications that may need to be made by a deputy or an attorney to the Court of Protection such as for authority to make gifts and family care payments.
