Elliot Cousins
Associate Solicitor
Profile
As an Associate Solicitor in the Dispute Resolution team, I am able to advise in all types of litigation, both in pre-action cases and those that have reached court proceedings. My work encompasses every aspect of a litigation case, often with the aim of achieving a successful resolution without the need for court proceedings, such as through mediation.
Whilst I am able to assist in any case involving a dispute, I have developed particular expertise within property litigation. As a specialist in real estate disputes, I regularly act for both commercial and residential property clients, and my work often includes advising on issues such as forfeiture of leases, rent recovery, trespass and nuisance, recovery of possession, enforcement of covenants, dilapidation claims, and professional negligence claims arising out of property matters.
I qualified as a solicitor in April 2020, having previously gained several years of experience within a city litigation practice specialising in professional negligence. I then moved into another Essex firm, where I completed my training contract and qualified as a Solicitor, focussing on dispute resolution throughout my career.
I love that my role involves problem-solving complex legal issues. No two cases are ever the same when working within dispute resolution, which is what drew me to this area of legal practice many years ago. I strive to provide advice to my clients in a way that is easy to understand whilst also lifting the burden of dealing with a dispute. I believe it is essential to provide solutions-focused advice at every step of the way, and my main goal is to help clients resolve their matter in a swift and cost-effective manner.
In addition to my work at Birkett Long, I also sit on the board of Trustees at the OutHouse; a Colchester-based charity that provides support to the LGBTQ+ community. In my spare time, I am often found improving my DIY skills and renovating my home. I am also an
