With over 16 years of experience in the family sector, Karen found her love of law at a very young age and even attended work experience with Birkett Long as a teenager.

Karen will be working on a variety of different cases, dealing with issues such as pre and post nuptial agreements, divorce and separation, dealing with finances during divorce, child arrangements and cases which involve domestic abuse. On the announcement of her appointment, Karen said: “I am extremely excited to be joining Birkett Long, and in particular the Divorce and Family team. The team is highly regarded and respected in Essex and shares my professional ideals to provide practical, tailored advice to each individual client, while working hard to ensure the best possible outcome.

“Divorce and separation are two of the most difficult things that a person might face in their lifetime. The implications of separation will likely result in significant anxiety as someone faces an uncertain future, whilst grieving the lost relationship.

“As a family solicitor, I will always take the time to listen to my clients so that I can offer advice that is relevant to their circumstances and addresses their concerns. I then guide them through the process, protect their interests and enable my client to plan for a better future.”

Philip Hoddell, Partner and head of the family team in Colchester said “I’m delighted that Karen is joining the divorce team at Birkett Long. Her appointment gives added strength to a team already recognised as leading the way in our area of law, and will enable us to continue to provide the best possible service to our clients”
