Former Factory Worker Wins Damages for Hearing Loss

A former factory worker whose hearing was damaged by excessive noise at his place of work has won £5,000 in damages.

Mr Davidson worked for Mather & Platt Limited, which manufactured pumps, fire sprinkler systems and electric motors, for four years during the 1960s. While working there, he was exposed to excessive noise from the machines used in the manufacturing process.

Mr Davidson underwent a medical assessment after the deterioration in his hearing led him to seek advice regarding a claim for damages against his former employer. The assessment confirmed that he was suffering from tinnitus – a ringing in the ears – and from noise-induced hearing loss.

The claim was settled out of court and damages of £5,000 were agreed.
