Cyclist Who Hit Pothole Wins £3,000 in Damages

A cyclist has won a settlement of £3,000 after he hit a pothole and was thrown from his bike.

He was on his way to work on the morning of the accident. It was raining heavily and visibility was poor as a result. Following the accident, he managed to get to the hotel where he worked, where he informed the duty manager of what had happened.

He did not seek medical assistance until the next day, after his pain had worsened. He then underwent X-rays and his GP prescribed him painkillers. However, he was unable to work for six months and eventually lost his job.

Establishing who was at fault for the poor maintenance of the road proved to be difficult, as it was on privately owned land. It was eventually discovered, however, that the hotel where he had worked was responsible for its upkeep. After negotiations with the hotel's insurance company, he secured a settlement of £3,000.
