Legal league table confirms Birkett Long as leading full service law firm for Essex

Birkett Long has been ranked as a top legal firm in Essex across five different disciplines. That is according to the latest Legal 500 results released on Tuesday 7 September.

The Legal 500 is a leading industry guide used by lawyers and organisations which buy legal services. The 2010 results reveal that, within Essex, Birkett Long is acknowledged as a ‘first tier’ firm of solicitors across five disciplines and achieves a top five ranking in another 12 areas.

Law firms are ranked by sector, into first to fifth tier positions. They are assessed by the quality of the practice, size of team, star players, quality of work and overall opinion.

To achieve a top five tier place is considered an exceptional achievement within the industry as many law firms are not ranked at all. The rankings and recommendations are based on hundreds of interviews with clients and lawyers as well as caseloads for individual firms.

David Wisbey, Birkett Long’s Chairman, said: “We are extremely pleased with these results. For several years our business aim has been to become the leading full service law firm in Essex. The Legal 500 suggests we are definitely on the right track to achieving that goal.”

Birkett Long was placed as a first tier firm in Commercial Litigation, Employment, Agriculture, Family, and Personal Tax, Trusts and Probate (PTTP). Other top five tier rankings included Health, Insolvency and Commercial Property.

“The fact that we received recognition for both our private and commercial disciplines is especially pleasing,” said David. “The results show that we are highly regarded in Essex as a full service firm, but also region wide, it proves we have strength in a diverse range of disciplines. This is something which sets us apart from our competitors.”

“However, we won’t become complacent,” added David. “There are still a few areas where we have not yet been ranked and want to establish ourselves. These latest results will help us shape our business going forwards so we continue to grow, evolve and offer a first class, full legal service both in Essex and in the wider region.”
