Anti-Counterfeiting Made Simpler

The counterfeiting of products has always been a significant issue, especially with regard to high value products sold in areas with high levels of indirect taxation, such as the UK.

For items such as cigarettes, perfume, whisky and luxury goods, counterfeiting costs the owners of the counterfeited brands millions of pounds annually in the UK alone.

Recently, a system has been introduced which allows a code to be created for goods, which permits their authenticity to be checked using a smartphone scanner.

Further information on the system can be found on the website of the Intellectual Property Office.
