What is adjudication?

Adjudication is one of a spectrum of dispute resolution mechanisms used to achieve a quick and cheap resolution.

When a dispute arises between parties in the supply chain, this could lead a party to suspend work. Consequently, this disrupts the entire project. For example, failing to provide an extension of time or refusal of an interim/final payment.

The introduction of adjudication has solved this problem, as it allows parties to “pay now, argue later”. This produces a practical outcome to disputes without burdening the courts.
