Managing Partner stepping down after 9 years in the post and 40 years at the firm.

  • In those 9 years, Birkett Long has shifted from a traditional law firm into a modern corporate firm with multiple business facets.
  • On 1 June 2019, Adrian Livesley will hand over to Head of Employment and Partner, Martin Hopkins.
  • Managing Partner of Birkett Long, Adrian Livesley, is stepping down on 31 May 2019, after 9 years in the post and forty years at the firm.

During his time in office, Mr Livesley has led the firm through: 7 acquisitions, opening a new office in Basildon, acquiring new premises in Chelmsford and brand new purpose built offices in Colchester, whilst modernising working practices and improving capabilities for clients across all three offices.

In addition to law, Birkett Long has specialists in an extra range of services, with Independent Financial Advisers, Human Resources and Intellectual Property businesses. Throughout, people have remained at the core of the firm. Not only are clients well looked after, but staff are too, as demonstrated by the firm’s Investors in People Gold accreditation. All staff enjoy the benefit of flexible working, and contributing to local community groups and charities across Essex is encouraged and supported.

Adrian Livesley, Managing Partner said: “My vision has been to push the firm to be a better 21st century business and to be the best we can be. As a firm, we pride ourselves on our core values - focused on our clients, people and community.”

Birkett Long embraces modern technology to support its vision. The security of client data has always been our highest priority and we continue to hold the Cyber Essentials Plus certificate which highlights our commitment to best practice security in an increasingly online society.

Adrian will relinquish his role at the end of May, but will continue to work within Birkett Long, taking the lead on various projects. Martin Hopkins, partner, will succeed him as Managing Partner on 1 June 2019.

“Martin understands our values and the challenges of running a multi-dimensional business. He has been working alongside me for the past year and I have every confidence that he will continue to facilitate Birkett Long’s growth with our values in mind.”
