Essex Law firm sponsors school cricket teams

Birkett Long is proud to sponsor a local school’s cricket teams. The Year 6 A teams at St Cedd’s School in Chelmsford have been wearing their sponsored kits this season.

The firm is delighted to be a sponsor in the first year that the St Cedd’s School girls have a separate cricket team. This year marks 100 years since the Sex Disqualification Act was passed, meaning that “a person shall not be disqualified by sex or marriage from entering or carrying on any civil profession or vocation or admission to any incorporated society”. Prior to that women could not be solicitors and they certainly wouldn’t have had their own cricket team!

Based in Chelmsford, wills, trusts and probate lawyer, Claire Read, and dispute resolution lawyer, Perdeep Grewal, went along to meet both teams and the school’s Head before a match.

Claire says: “Birkett Long is keen to support and interact with the local community and it was a pleasure to be welcomed to the school to see the Year 6s in their sponsored kit.”

Mr Matthew Clarke, Head of the independent preparatory school on New London Road, says: “The kits look fantastic and the teams wear them with pride when representing the school at fixtures and tournaments, including the recent IAPS event. A huge thank you to Birkett Long for kindly supporting our boys’ and girls’ teams.”
