Essex Law firm hires commercial and corporate finance solicitor

Birkett Long LLP has recruited a new solicitor into the commercial and corporate finance team and the education team. Jonathon Holyhead is responsible for a range of commercial clients from sole traders to public traded companies and charities to schools.

In the Education department Jonathon offers advice to a range of educational institutions, including maintained schools, single academy trusts, multi-academy trusts, independent schools, and further and higher education institutions.

In the Commercial and Corporate Finance team, he works with all types of businesses giving them advice and support during their transactions. He specialises in giving Intellectual Property advice to clients in their commercial agreements, but also works with clients on matters ranging from Non-Disclosure agreements to Share sales and purchases.

Jonathon took the traditional route to qualification in November 2019 via a law degree, LPC and training contract. Before joining Birkett Long, Jonathon worked at a number of different law firms, specialising in Education and Commercial work. Additionally, he worked as an inhouse legal advisor to a technology firm dealing with the day to day commercial contracts and their Intellectual Property Portfolio.

Having been based in London until 2018, he moved for a better work-life balance when his daughter was born. He has in the past worked with global clients helping realise their ambitions and legal needs.

From a young age Jonathon had shown an interest in Law, which was emphasised by a family friend who was a lawyer. He says “Growing up I had known I wanted to work in the legal industry. I discovered that I preferred commercial law when I was working for a London Law firm and a call was put through to me by accident, and after I had dealt with the matter the Partner of the particular team asked for me to be transferred as his client had emailed to say how helpful I had been and that I understood the clients issues. After that moment I knew that I wanted to work with commercial clients and help them.”

Of working at Birkett Long Jonathon says “I enjoy the environment of the firm, the atmosphere in the firm is very positive and I have been made to feel very welcome straight away, and I love that as a firm we are heading towards the future with great investments into the firms infrastructure.”

Every year Jonathon volunteers with the Royal International Air Tattoo. This is run by the RAF charitable trust as the world’s largest Military Air Tattoo. Under this event he works for the VIP guest Management Team as a liaison officer supporting guests at the show. All money that is raised from the Air Tattoo is put back into charitable causes. Jonathon also enjoys looking for his next challenge or adventure after previously bungee jumping, walking the French Alps and trekking across the United Kingdom.
