Essex law firm achieves Lexcel reaccreditation for 16th year
In June this year, Birkett Long underwent its annual Lexcel assessment and passed with flying colours! This is the sixteenth year the firm has been accredited with the quality mark.
Lexcel is the Law Society’s legal practice quality mark “promoting a quality management approach for client service and how to run a legal practice”. It helps firms to achieve excellence in compliance and practice management. Birkett Long has held the Lexcel quality mark since 2003 and has successfully been reaccredited every year since.
The quality mark looks at seven key areas of the practice: structure and strategy, financial management, information management, people management, risk management, client care and file and case management. The external assessor interviews all levels of staff, including those on the firm’s management board and new starters.
Lexcel accreditation helps law firms to increase client satisfaction, maximise operational efficiencies, and win more new business whilst minimising the risk of claims. It also offers flexibility for bespoke requirements.
A new standard of the Lexcel quality mark was introduced in 2018 to incorporate recent changes in the law, including the General Data Protection Regulations. The standard also heavily focuses on the security of information and how firms protect themselves, and their clients, from cyber-attacks. This was the first year Birkett Long was assessed against the new standard and passing without any non-compliances is a massive achievement.
