Basildon HR Forum April - Retirement Planning

Retirement Planning - Changing the demographic of your workforce

The workforce has become increasingly diverse and this has forced employers to make considerable changes to the way in which they approach people management. Demographics are constantly changing and in some parts at a rapid pace, presenting even greater challenges for HR professionals as they look to hire, train, manage and retain an entirely new generation of workers.

We will be considering the changing demographic in modern workplaces. As we live longer and are able to work longer, employers need to be ready for the opportunities offered by older employees. However, with the removal of the default retirement age, employers also need to understand what action they can take to maintain the turnover and succession planning which is vital to any successful business. Issues of a typical working, indirect disability & age discrimination and flexible working make this an area which contains some tricky areas of law. The Birkett long team will provide practical and commercial guidance to navigate these areas. We will also look at younger employees and the different approaches which are required to retain and motivate millennials. Many of the traditional approaches to HR and staffing issues are not effective when dealing with a new generation of workers and we need to be thinking about changing approaches so we are ready for the next.

This will be an opportunity for you to hear our views about HR practice in this area. These views are based on our experience with a number of employers from different sectors and at different stages of development. That means that whatever sector you work in, however large your business is, there will be something of relevance to you at this session.
