New GDPR regulations and charities
- AuthorClaire Read
As a Trustee of the Essex Community Foundation, I am very mindful that there are new regulations coming into force in May 2018.
Today, whilst I was live on the Ronnie Barbour BBC Essex Radio show it was raised that some charities had previously been breaching Data Protection laws designed to protect individuals. Unfortunately, this is true because earlier this year 11 large national charities were fined. However, the new regulations coming into force (GDPR – EU General Data Protection Regulations) build on data protection laws and strengthen an individual’s right to privacy. This is a big change that will not only affect charities but all business that hold data for individuals (so nearly all businesses then!). I am no specialist in this area, but fortunately, I know a team at Birkett Long that can help guide me as a Trustee through the new law. We are holding a free seminar on this topic for organisations and for more information click here
