My first month at Birkett Long

If I told you I wasn't nervous on my first day as a trainee solicitor I would be lying. The last four years of my life had been leading up to this point and on my journey to the office that first morning I felt quite overwhelmed. But I was also incredibly excited for what lay ahead. My nerves abated fairly quickly on that first day. Mostly because everyone at Birkett Long is so welcoming and approachable. The firm has a very open and friendly environment.

I was one of the two new trainees. We were initially given an induction and training to get us used to the systems and later on in our first week we went to our various teams which are our homes for the next six months.

I have learnt so much during my first month a Birkett Long. I’m very lucky in that I have two trainee supervisors both of whom are happy to help me with any questions (even the silly ones) that I have.

I’ve enjoyed a great deal of responsibility – more than I thought I’d get, during my first month. On my first day in the Commercial Real Estate Team I was liaising with clients. On my fifth day in the team I had done my first completion. I have attended client meetings (and conducted my own), drafted leases and licences to assign. I have been included in networking events and even represented Birkett long at a local school's careers fair where I was able to share my experiences so far with young students.

I believe that Birkett Long genuinely care about me progressing and are just as invested in my training contract as I am. I feel incredibly lucky to have been offered the opportunity to train at Birkett Long and couldn’t be happier with my experience here so far.
