Legal Practice Course Aptitude Tests

  • Posted

Whilst I agree that something needs to be done to halt the ever-climbing numbers of LPC students, I struggle to see the benefit that aptitude tests will bring. Let’s not lose sight of the fact that the LPC is a vocational course; perhaps the answer is to limit places to those who have already accepted a training contract? (I think my stance won’t find favour with several institutions…) From my own experience there are some on the LPC that have the academic ability but struggle with the softer, day-to-day skills. Which would the employer prefer?

Ideally both, but if an aptitude test is made compulsory then it is foreseeable that all trainee solicitors would be of a similar ilk…probably at the ultimate detriment to the profession.
