Barclays Bank Chelmsford Quiz
- AuthorDavid Rayner
Last night Birkett Long attended the Barclays Bank, Chelmsford quiz, held at Chelmsford City Football Club.
Having won for the previous 2 years, the Birkett Long team consisted of Kurt Goddard, Liz O’Mahony, Bradley Powell, Emma Wraight, Simon Green and myself. We were trying not to let the pressure get to us as we fought through the 10 rounds of questions – not helped by the quiz master constantly referring to us as ‘Birkett Long, the returning champions for the past 2 years’.
Incredibly, Simon knew the dimensions of a table tennis table, Liz knew all about the intricacies of patterns for brick-laying, Kurt recalled Elvis’ first UK number 1, and I persuaded the team to change an answer from ‘Flying Scotsman’(correct) to ‘Mallard’ (wrong) – so it was an all-round team performance (!).
In the end, we won by 5.5 points so, like the World Cup, we get to keep the (non-existent) trophy, but most importantly the evening raised an amazing £3,862.46 for the Wilderness Foundation UK.
