A bright future for the University of Essex
- AuthorDavid Cant
The future looks bright for our friends at the University of Essex as their expansion programme proceeds at a pace.
On 22 October Adrian Livesley (our Managing Partner) and I were privileged to attend the ‘Topping out Ceremony’ for the new university building which will house the Essex Business School from Autumn 2014.
Unquestionably, another ‘feather in the cap’ for the University of Essex, the futuristic building looks stunning now, so the finished product should be breathtaking. Unsurprisingly, its carbon footprint also leads the way in that it will be the first carbon zero business school in the UK. It will boast a winter garden, an Eden Project-style dome and a rainwater pond; the building will have its own micro-climate that will keep it cool in summer and warm in winter, formal and informal learning and teaching space, a 250-seater lecture theatre, state-of-the-art ICT provision, social spaces and a café.
The key message to existing businesses throughout Essex and beyond is to share this facility, and I quote from the UOE website – “Our new home will be a hub for local and regional businesses to network with one another, meet our students, and discuss the practical application and implications of current organisational research”.
The new facility will also provide a range of conference facilities to hire. We look forward to giving them a spin when they’re ready!
