Can't afford to take legal advice? Can't afford not to!
Recently I came across a tale of someone who was a guarantor on a lease, his business had sadly gone bust and the landlord was claiming the rent for all of the remaining years on the lease from him as guarantor. He agreed to pay the landlord £20,000 to settle the claim, which was much less than the landlord was threatening to claim. He said he could not afford to pay for legal advice, so he did not take any.
Unfortunately for him he did not realise that, due to the particular circumstances in his case, he did not need to pay the landlord a penny, so he was effectively throwing away £20,000. For a very modest cost
