Birkett Long continues random acts of kindness
Birkett Long delivers "calm bags" to St.Helena Hospice

We are continuing our 200-year anniversary celebrations with random acts of kindness in the local community and a look back at our history.

Random Acts of Kindness

Last month we delivered sweet boxes to Colchester Zoo as a thankyou to their staff who have continued to work throughout the pandemic, ensuring the animals are cared for and that visitors can return as soon as they are permitted. This is vital to ensure that funding continues for the Zoo’s charity ‘Action for the Wild’ which assists conservation projects.

In our first random act of kindness, all St Helena Hospice staff received ‘calm kits’ containing The Happy Newspaper, chocolate, tissues, calm tea, sweets and mints which put a smile on the faces of this hardworking team. St Helena Hospice supports local families facing incurable illness and bereavement.

Sarah Wilson, Fundraising Manager at St Helena Hospice said: “On behalf of everyone here at St Helena Hospice I want to say a big thank you to Birkett Long for thinking of us at what has been a challenging time for everyone. We all really appreciate the calm kits, an act of kindness goes a long way and means so much.”

From our history

As part of our celebrations, we are continuing to look back over our 200-year history and heritage. This month, we remember when Birkett Long solicitor Sir Ronald Long became President of the Suffolk and Essex Law Society. Sir Ronald was admitted as a solicitor in August 1927 and was still a practising solicitor when he died in October 1987. He was therefore one of very few solicitors to have been in practise for over 60 years. What an achievement! Sir Ronald’s legacy has continued into the present day with John Morgan, a consultant solicitor at Birkett Long, himself marking 50 years in law in 2019.

Long service remains a prominent feature at Birkett Long and we are congratulating nine members of our staff who have completed 20 years’ service with us this year and who will all be receiving a token of our appreciation for their hard work and commitment. Congratulations to:
Gillian Dulieu - IFA team
Martin Hopkins – Managing Partner
Natasha Austin – Corporate and Commercial Finance
Nicky Halls – Wills, Trusts and Probate
Craig Bloomfield – Operations
Corinne Dardis – Residential Real Estate
Reggie Lloyd – BLHR & Employment
Tracey Dickens – Corporate and Commercial Finance
Heidi Rampton – Commercial Real Estate

Kind messages of congratulations

We have received many kind messages for our 200 year anniversary but would like to share this one that we received from one of our valued clients.
Patricia said: “Congratulations! When I first came from London to Colchester in 1995 I expected some difficulties as I was in a same sex relationship (my partner was already your client) and Colchester was not as open to change as Central London as I had already discovered. I need not have been concerned, no one even blinked! Excellent service, friendly but professional good manners. I send you my good wishes for the next 200 years!”

Last month, every employee at Birkett Long received a voucher from the firm to spend on a coffee or something sweet to encourage them to think about who they would like to treat over the coming year. We are looking forward to finding out who our staff are going to choose to benefit from our random acts of kindness and what surprises are in store for our clients, business partners, employees and communities over the coming months.
