200 years celebrations - September
- AuthorJennie Skingsley
We are continuing our 200-year anniversary celebrations with random acts of kindness in the local community and a look back at our history.
Random acts of kindness
The Divorce and Family team has been busy again with their random acts of kindness. They presented Eleanor Franklin, Admin assistant in our Chelmsford office with a giant cookie to say thank you for all the support she gave them over the lockdown.
Cheryl Burness from our Basildon office visited Papworth Trust in Basildon along with Jennie from our Colchester office to hand-deliver some baking items for the charity’s service users to bake their own cookies and cakes. Papworth Trust supports disabled people with a range of high-quality services and we were delighted when the charity sent us some images of their service users Kerry and Rachel’s baking session and the delicious results.
Jennie and Cheryl also visited St.Luke’s Hospice in Basildon this month to deliver 400 Calm Kits to their staff and volunteers. The Calm Kits contained biscuits, tissues, sweets, calming tea and a copy of the Happy newspaper. We know the work that St.Luke’s Hospice do is incredibly hard and that sometimes they need to take a moment for a wobble. Hopefully our Calm Kits will help make those wobbly moments a bit easier.
St. Luke’s Hospice’s mission is to provide the highest standards of individualised care for people with life-limiting conditions, palliative and end of life care needs, and their families, living in Basildon and Thurrock districts.
Suzanne Sales, Assistant Director of Clinical Service at St.Luke’s Hospice said: “We are incredibly grateful for the calm kits we received from Birkett Long, our staff and volunteers very much enjoyed receiving them and we thank everyone at Birkett Long for their ongoing support.”
The Marketing team sent flowers to the organisers of the Stour Valley Arts and Music Festival and to Sam Olymbios from their printing supplier Smith and Watts. Sam said: “Just to say thank you all so much for the beautiful flowers. They have made my day really cheered me up.”
Nicky Halls from our Wills Trusts and Probate team presented Orhan Ismail, Birkett Long’s Learning and Development Manager with some locally sourced ales for going the extra mile in helping her get to grips with a new software program. Nicky said: "he has been so kind and patient".
Tracey Dickens from our Corporate and Commercial Finance Team specialises in advising GP Practices and she hand delivered some Calm Kits to several local GP Practices as an acknowledgement of all that the hard-working staff have done during the pandemic.
Suryen Nullatamby from our Dispute Resolution team sent a bottle of wine to a long standing and valued associate, Bob from Ames Associates.
Bob said: “I have just received a lovely bottle of wine with your very kind message. Thank you.”
From our history
Did you know that in 1989 Birkett Long’s Independent Financial advisers were established? The founders, Nicola Ward and Colin Hyoms, are still with the firm today and celebrated their 30th anniversary at the firm in 2019. Their team has now grown to 12 staff.
Did you know that our current Managing Partner, Martin Hopkins, became a Partner in June 2003?
Kind messages of congratulations
We have received many kind messages of congratulations, but this month would like to share this one from Coral .
“What an amazing surprise to come home and find the most beautiful flowers waiting for me. I thought it was a mistake! No birthday or anniversary!! But the address etc was right and then I read your lovely message.
Thank you so much for this wonderful gesture. They are looking lovely in the hall at the moment and perfect timing as the family are visiting this weekend.
Please pass on my and Birte’s thanks to all involved in this kind and generous act during your landmark year. I hope all the celebrations for the first 200 years go well!
Best wishes and thanks again to you and all at Birkett Long”
