We are continuing our 200-year anniversary celebrations with random acts of kindness in the local community and a look back at our history.

Random acts of kindness

Our BLHR team hand-delivered smores kits to some of their clients as a celebration of Guy Fawkes night.

One client, Janine Rusbridge, from Writtle University College said: "Always a pleasure to welcome Julie Temple from Birkett Long to WUC with a wonderful act of kindness gratefully received. Guess smores are on the menu tonight. 😊"

Suzanne Revett, our Executive receptionist, gave a viburnum plant to Birkett Long client, Pauline Haggerty, in a random act of kindness.

Emma Wraight, from our Commercial Real Estate team, and Jess Birch, from our Wills Trusts and Probate team, delivered 400 calm kits to Farleigh Hospice containing a copy of The Happy Newspaper, tissues, chocolates, biscuits, calm tea and sweets.

Alison Stevens, Chief Executive of Farleigh Hospice, said: “This is indeed very welcome news. I know these gifts of kindness will be much appreciated by our staff who are feeling fatigued not just because of Covid but due to ongoing increasing demands on our services and in turn on the teams who work hard to bring in income to support the clinical services.”

Daniel Finch, from OutHouse, received a bespoke chocolate bar as a Thank you for all of his help in working with us (and he missed out on our previous doughnut drop off to the charity last month!)

Liam, a maintenance worker in our Colchester office, received an Amazon voucher. Our Colchester and Basildon office cleaners also received Amazon vouchers.

Gaye Eason and Emma Purkiss, from our Admin team, remembered their former colleague and friend, Charlotte Adams, who died from an undiagnosed heart condition at age 23 in 2014. On the 7th anniversary of her death they visited Lexden Lodge Kindergarten where Charlotte was an employee and handed cupcakes out to the staff in her memory. Charlotte’s mother, Kate Bome, continues to raise funds in her memory for CRY a charity that aims to prevent young sudden cardiac deaths through awareness, screening and research, and supporting affected families.

Our Admin team also sent Katie Brayne, our Account Manager from MJF, our offsite storage provider, a Next voucher.

Katie said: “What a lovely surprise in the post this morning. Thank you very much, put a much needed smile on my face.”

Suryen Nullatamby from our Dispute Resolution team based in Chelmsford gave a bottle of wine from local supplier Flunder wines to three of his clients.

Orhan Ismail, our Learning and Development Manager, received Curzon cinema vouchers from the Divorce and Family team. The team said “Orhan is always so patient and kind when training or called upon to help out with any problems that arise.”

Kind messages of congratulations

We have had many kind messages of congratulations, but this month we wanted to share these ones with you.

Daniel Finch from OutHouse said:

“I just wanted to say a massive thank you for the delightful surprise package I received yesterday! Not only was it exciting to have my first OutHouse-addressed delivery, but you had me blushing at such a gorgeous chocolate bar made especially for me! 😄 I have shared some of it with other members of the OutHouse family.”

Alison Stevens, Chief Executive of Farleigh Hospice said: “A huge thank you to you and your colleagues at BL for the delicious Brownies sent as a treat in recognition of our national award. A very kind gesture which is much appreciated.” Last month Alison received brownies from Emma Wraight in our Commercial Real Estate team, a former trustee of the charity.
