I studied for a BSc Economics (First) at Loughborough University (1985-88) and then for a MA Economic Development (Merit) at Leicester University (1988-89). After a year travelling, I was a tax assistant at KPMG Peat Marwick in London where I obtained my ATT tax qualification. I studied for the CPE law (merit) and LPC law (commendation) at Manchester Metropolitan University.
I qualified in 1996 and came to Birkett Long in 1998 to specialise in employment law. I became a partner at the firm in May 2000.
I act for both employers and employees across a wide range of employment issues and disputes, covering contentious and non contentious matters. I find it helpful in tailoring my advice to any particular client to have experience of both sides of the fence. I believe that my job is to listen and advise, seeking easy solutions to a problem which take into account all the individual or business needs of the client.
I have a particular interest in redundancy, restructure and business reorganisation and, I am a part of the firm's insolvency and healthcare teams.
As well as partner, I am team leader of four employment specialists and two immigration specialists.
I am a member of the Employment Lawyers Association.
