Laurence Green

The firm was instructed by the husband of a deceased care assistant who was admitted to hospital with vomiting and suspected TB.  She was treated with very strong drugs that began the process of liver failure.  The drugs were withdrawn for a short period and then reintroduced at a “challenge dose” contrary to the NICE guidelines.  Mrs Green's liver failed completely and, although she was transferred to another hospital for an emergency liver transplant, she died before a liver could be found.  Despite a very positive report from Mr Green's expert on liability and breach of duty, the Defendant NHS Trust maintained a robust denial of liability, thus distressing Mr Green and his family further.  The claim comprised funeral expenses, bereavement damages and loss of earnings although, as Mr Green's deceased wife was a care assistant, her earnings were relatively low.  Despite maintaining a robust denial of liability, the matter was settled very shortly prior to trial for the sum of £175,000.
