An Essex-based firm of solicitors that has successfully weathered the recession will increase its Chelmsford team in June following amalgamation with another local firm.
Birkett Long, one of the region’s largest law firms, will join up with Weight Wolny and Trusler, to welcome seven new members of staff to the Birkett Long Chelmsford office on Legg Street on June 1.
The acquisition strengthens Birkett Long’s position as the leading firm of solicitors in Essex and follows the previous acquisition of a Colchester based firm, Jackson & Partners, in April 2009.
Staff numbers in the Chelmsford office will increase from 40 to 47, with both of the Weight Wolny and Trusler partners, Bob Wolny and John Trusler, joining the Birkett Long team. The acquisition enhances Birkett Long’s private client services, strengthening its legal expertise in areas such as wills, residential property and family matters. Combined with staff at the Colchester office, Birkett Long will grow to a team of 146.
Adrian Livesley, managing partner at Birkett Long, said he was confident the decision would boost the firm’s expertise. “Weight Wolny and Trusler has been established for 30 years and will be an excellent addition to our team. As part of a bigger, stronger firm, their clients will benefit from knowing that their legal affairs are in safe and secure hands. Birkett Long has successfully negotiated the difficult economic conditions and we feel very positive about the year ahead.”
On joining Birkett Long, Bob Wolny said that the time was right to merge with a larger, local firm. “As we experience the green shoots of economic recovery, we wanted to be in a strong position to face the future with confidence and continue delivering excellent legal services to our clients in Chelmsford. The decision to merge with Birkett Long is absolutely the right one and we look forward to joining forces.”
The Weight Wolny and Trusler office on Moulsham Street closed on May 27, 2010. Letters will be sent to all current Weight Wolny and Trusler clients to inform them of the change and the new contact details.
