Colchester Business Trends
Author(s)Philip George
Philip George, Managing Partner at growing law firm, Birkett Long LLP, looks at the current business environment in and around Colchester.
“In the present uncertain and difficult trading conditions, diversification is the key for firms in the service industry, and those firms which have an interest in a variety of different areas and sectors are likely to be better placed to cope with the downturn. In Colchester, as elsewhere, there has been a very sharp fall-off in activity in the residential and commercial sales markets during the summer months, although demand and activity in the leasehold sector remains strong. However, in other sectors – for instance, dispute resolution and insolvency – activity remains at or above normal levels, and we have recently recruited two solicitors, Tom Lawrence and Mark Wrinch, from other local firms to help service the demand. Each firm needs to keep adapting and changing its business model in order to ensure that it is properly equipped to meet the new challenges which continually present themselves.”
