End of Term Awards at Colchester School of Gymnastics

The end of term awards at the Colchester School of Gymnastics were presented on Saturday 13 December, by Philip Hoddell, partner of sponsoring firm, Birkett Long LLP.

Philip Hoddell gave out certificates for performance and attendance to 57 students, ranging in age from 6 to 7. The school caters for all ages and abilities beginning with pre school classes right up to elite competition squads.

Essex law firm, Birkett Long LLP, has been involved with the School of Gymnastics as a sponsor for the last year. The School is a registered charity and therefore depends on involvement from the local community and businesses to help it achieve its aim of providing gymnastics coaching to children and young people throughout the Colchester area – including those with disabilities. Founded 30 years ago, it has a long established affiliation with the British Gymnastics Association (BGA) and participates in BGA awards schemes. It is also a holder of the prestigious GymMark and ClubSX Gold accreditations.

Kevin Hill, who is a Trustee of the School and whose daughters compete and coach for the club, said: “We are delighted that Mr Hoddell gave up some of his weekend to make this presentation for us. One of our aims is that children here should have fun but reach high standards as well. As a parent myself, I know that the parents who attended this awards presentation feel immensely proud of their children’s achievements.”

Philip Hoddell said: “At Birkett Long we have a policy of involvement and support of community and charitable activities. Several people in our firm have a strong sporting connection and with 2012 just around the corner, it’s tremendous to see the School thriving.”
