Up on the Roof
A tour of the exciting new firstsite:newsite was on the menu at a Chamber of Commerce luncheon held on 21 November and hosted jointly between firstsite and Essex law firm, Birkett Long Solicitors.
Complete with hard hats, the lucky lunch attendees got an unusual view of this landmark project for Colchester, which is scheduled to open late next year. The building itself is almost complete and interior fitting has begun. After a ‘whistle-stop’ lunch, the 55 attendees were given a tour of the outside of the building, which included a chance to visit the golden TECU Gold® roof, looking at its best in the late autumn sunshine, and enjoy spectacular views across the town.
The project has been described as “an exemplary new national model for a twenty-first century cultural organisation and for culture-led urban renewal” by the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State, Department for Communities and Local Government. Designed by internationally acclaimed architect, Rafael Viñoly, the building will be a place where art and culture will become accessible to everyone and where people can enjoy a unique leisure experience.
