Birkett Long Fund Raising Supports Cancer Research UK
Birkett Long Solicitors handed over a cheque for more than £3,000 to Cancer Research UK at its May Fair held at the legal firm’s office in Chelmsford.
For the past 12 months, everyone at Birkett Long has been busy raising money for Cancer Research UK – their chosen charity of the year – through activities such as a monthly dress down day, competitions, coffee mornings, a Valentines’ Day raffle, a fair selling books, CDs and videos, plus special days to mark calendar events such as Halloween and Easter.
Shirley Tarbin, Director of Personnel at Birkett Long, said: “Our annual charity is chosen by our staff who then come up with ideas of how we can raise money – some of which are fairly ordinary but others are quite unusual. This year we had an ‘Anyone for Tennis’ event when we dressed the kitchen in tennis rackets, balls etc and served strawberries and cream, cakes and held a raffle. The firm has been involved in charitable activities for many years, the best known of which is our annual Run4Fun, but this one is a bit special because it’s chosen by everyone.”
The cheque was handed over to Rachel Hadfield, Area Volunteer Manager Suffolk and North Essex of Cancer Research UK and Peter Hall, Area Volunteer Manager Mid and South Essex. During the May Fair, stalls sold books, CDs, plants and other goods, and the staff enjoyed cakes and cream teas.
Rachel Hadfield from Cancer Research UK said: "We are delighted that Birkett Long chose us as their charity of the year for 2007-8 and to receive this amazing donation of over £3000 from them as a result. The commitment to fundraising shown by the business is fantastic and they have really shown the caring nature of the company in working together as a team and supporting Cancer Research UK".
Birkett Long’s chosen charity for the forthcoming year is Little Havens Children’s Hospice in Southend.
